conference sunday + weekend recap

Where do I begin?  How about these delicious Gooey Chocolate Chip Sandwich Bars my mom made and included in her unreal selection of breakfast foods for conference brunch.  Who doesn't love a layer of chocolate chip cookie dough, followed by a layer of fudge, and topped with another layer of homemade cookie crumble? Yes please.  I woke up this morning to an email from her on my phone, that said "these will be at brunch today" with a link to the recipe.  She's brilliant.

And we got to hangout with these girls today:

Friday: Friday night was fabulous.  We met up with some of our good friends, who are newly engaged (yay!), and headed to Bountiful for a mission reunion.  From there we headed in to downtown Salt Lake and ate dinner at bluelemon, then grabbed dessert at Hatch's Family Chocolates.   From there we made our way to the Salt Lake City Cemetary.  Why?  Because it's time to kick off Halloween.  In fact, I'm hoping TT will let me watch Hocus Pocus tonight.

And Saturday: Was an adventure!  After work, me and a few coworkers headed out to the Bonneville Salt Flats for a photo shoot and workshop.  It was supported exclusively by Pictureline, and held by Wasatch Camera Club.  We got off on exit 4, exit 4!!  That's 4 miles from the Nevada/Utah border, and also 4 miles shy of Wendover.  I can't wait to share more pictures.  It was a lot of fun.  And naturally, after the shoot we packed up and headed to Wendover to grab some food.  It was a first for me.  I'll be sharing more about this later in the week.
Let's just say the Salt Flats are really, really cool. More to come!

randi's married.

One of my best friends, Mrs. Randi Bennion was married on Tuesday!  I felt so lucky to be apart of hers and Tobin's beautiful wedding this last week, and celebrate with showers, bachelorette parties, and so much more in preparation of their big day.  More pictures to come! :) Congrats Reg.

the alpine coaster + montage (1 of 3)

this weekend, we were able to spend some quality time up in deer valley at the montage, down on main street, and in park city on the alpine coaster.  so fun.  the twinners and tt were able to sneak away from their crazy school schedules and join me for some fun on the alpine coaster. the coaster = more fun than the alpine slide.  and you can't fall off the coaster (but your phone can, and it did) like you can on the slide (and i have).  while we waited in line, we played the "pretend game".  this is where someone comes up with a pretend scenario, and someone else has to quickly react to it, and i take a picture of their reaction at that exact moment (pictures above and below from this game).

we all played, and laughed really hard.  it was a good way to pass the time while we waited.
and then we boarded.
the colors are changing.
tt and i rode together so we could reach maximum speed.  and it worked.

lunch time

One of my favorite things about working downtown are all of the fun lunch places I get to try.  Today Katie and Danielle (my super cute coworkers) and I went to ekamai for some Thai food.  This cute and tiny restaurant dishes up some delicious curry and noodle dishes.  We tried egg noodles with broccoli and chicken sprinkled with lime and red pepper flakes.  If you like Thai food and live in the city I recommend ekamai.
Last week I tried Guzzi's with my mom and dad, famous for their burgers.  Between the three of us we tried the Guzzi, Bacon and Bleu Cheese, and the Veggie Burger.  All were delicious, although maybe a little too greasy for our liking.

Where do you like to eat in Salt Lake?  I'm always up for a good food recommendation.

Swiss Days Recap

I love Swiss Days.  It always falls on Labor Day weekend.  The weather is usually starting to transition from summer to fall, school is back in session, and the long weekend comes at the perfect time.  Our family has a place in Midway we love to call our home away from home.  Swiss Days runs from Friday to Saturday, with an incredible amount of activities from start to finish.  There is a 10k on Saturday mornings, which we've run in past years, a parade, traditional Swiss food and a whole lotta other good food, crafts, and usually a really good find or two.
We ran into some cute puppies, an lovely beach cruiser, some real Swiss peeps (I've got some Swiss in me!), beautiful barns, and delicious peach pie.
The pony rides are free at the local grocery store.
Please don't pull grass to feed sheep.
The Swiss flag is everywhere.
The small town of Midway overflows with food, crafts, and people.

I don't know about everyone else, but we love it!

weekend update

Labor Day kicked off the week with brunch up at the Homestead with my parents.  Later that day, TT and I went on a long walk with Crew, watched a movie or two, and played games.  Tuesday night after work I met my mom and sister at Cafe Molise before we saw the Broadway production of Mary Poppins.
The food is Italian, and the restaurant is right in the heart of downtown Salt Lake.  We weren't completely sure how felt about our meal, but wouldn't mind trying it again.  Seeing Mary Poppins reminded me of how much I really love the classic Disney movies, and songs!
Thursday night we had a shower for miss Randi in my parents backyard.  I get to work with these beautiful ladies!  On the menu was broccoli quiche, strawberry pistachio salad, almond poppy seed muffins,  a sherbet shine drink, and lots of jordan almonds.  It was delicious.
Oh yes.  When I got up to Midway last weekend, my mom and Grandma promised me they wouldn't have dessert with out.  I ended up taking longer than expected, and didn't make it up there until around 10pm.  They stayed true to their word, and we jumped in my car to go for shakes and sherbet cones at Dairy Keen.  It was so enjoyable going on a late night eat in with these two!  We originally sought out some fresh pie, but the majority of Heber was already closed, so we settled for banana cream pie shakes instead!
It's been a great week!  And this next week, is rivalry week.  I plan on making it a good one at our place!

A Fairytale Shower

Newsflash: Randi is getting married.  And we're all so excited for her.  Tonight we threw a shower for some of Randi's friends, at the beautiful Sarah's home.  The food was fantastic, the decorations were beautiful, and there was such a fun theme!  Everyone was assigned a specific fairytale, and their gift was supposed to be based from it.  For example:  our friend Carly was given Rapunzel, so she gifted Randi a frying pan... how clever (If of course you've seen Tangled)!
What a fun night!
