Chambray and Florals

So proud of myself!  I wore a skirt two days in a row, and one of those days wasn't church! I've just been feeling so springy lately (like we all have), and couldn't resist putting this skirt on today. The morning started out with a different belt and different shoes, until something amazing happened.  I was killing a half hour between school and work today and Trolley Square, an incredibly fun place to walk around/ dine/ cafe' it/ window shop etc. I walked into American Apparel, and was a little disappointed with the prices of everything to be honest.  I was looking for tights and each pair I wanted were $25.00 - for some reason I thought they would be closer to seven bucks and they definitely weren't.  Then, I walked into this incredible boutique Ypsilon.  If you live in Salt Lake and haven't shopped there, go now.  I was staring at beautiful clothes, incredible dresses, denim, t's, belts, shoes, purses, and so much more.  Andrea helped me pick out these more appropriate shoes and belt for this outfit.  Best part?  It was affordable.  I'll be checking in at Ypsilon much more often now.

What I'm Wearing:
Chambray Shirt: Old Navy (also worn here)
Tank: Whimsy
Belt: Ypsilon Boutique
Skirt: Anthropologie (also worn here)
Tights: Nordstrom (also worn here)
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

This last shot is a lovely view of my patellar tendinitis on my right knee.  Yum.  Tomorrow is the last day to enter this BRIGHT GIVEAWAY so hurry and enter!! It's not too late to RSVP to this blogger get together this weekend, more and more people are coming, and I'd love to meet all of you...if only.
Happy Tuesday!

False Advertising?

Well, my Elizabeth and James Oxford Boots arrived...but they look nothing like the picture on the website I ordered them from.  Would you agree??  I mean I still love them, but they definitely don't look like what I thought I had ordered.  Has that ever happened to you?  I usually don't buy much online, but I'm beginning to love shopping online.  Its' TOO convenient.

What was delivered to my front door:
The color of my boots are much darker, the toes are much more pointy, and the suede has a lot more texture than appears in the picture below.

The picture on Hautelook.com where I purchased them.
Either way, I still love them.  They're just...different!

A Wild Grape

Today my mom met me downtown for a little lunch in between our busy schedules.  One of my all time favorite things to lunch with my favorite loved ones.  Something about going to lunch is just so relaxing and good for the soul.  For anyone in Salt Lake-- we ate at the wild Grape, NOT my fav.

I feel like this is a super classic outfit.  Denim and cords.  This denim shirt is meant to be extra big, it's a small, and I usually wear a medium/sometimes large.  I think it's meant to be worn differently, and I'll show you how the next time I wear it.  How would you have worn this combo differently?  Would you have added a cardigan?  I just don't know.  This shows off my super short torso.  Great.
What I'm wearing:

Oh, made a purchase I probably shouldn't have today.  I can't wait to show you!  But it will be 10-14 business days before this purchase arrives on my door step.  I have a new love for shopping online, but I rarely buy.  I usually just put the items in my cart and call it good, and a part of me feels like I actually got it.  This time I followed the purchase through to the end.  Success.

my picks: In 2010

Here are my picks for the 10 fashion necessities coming into 2010.  The categories are as follows: ankle booties, round sunglasses, boyfriend jeans, tailored blazers, brightly colored coats, chunky knit sweaters, embellished flats, platform pumps, wide-leg pants, and pencil skirts.

The Ankle Bootie
my pick: the Seychelles Bootie from Nordstrom
why: I love the idea of an open boot, especially if I'm wearing tights.  It can spice up the entire outfit.  Plus I love the brand, Seychelles is affordable (comparably), and comfortable! $109

Round Glasses
my pick: Armani Shades from Nordstrom.
*If I were really daring, and one day I will be, my next prescription glasses will come in frames like the ones on to the right.
why: I chose these glasses because I like the tint, they're not really dark.  I love the print on the frames.  These were also surprisingly more affordable than I thought they would be  at $78.

The Boyfriend Jean
my pick: J Brand Boyfriend Jean.  I think this is the perfect shade for a boyfriend cut.
why:I love the way the cuff hits, and the fact that there are not too many tears along the pants.  *and i love the shoes* A little more pricy at $224 - has anyone seen similar ones for cheaper?

The Blazer
my pick: Gap Heather Blazer in grey.
why: I have actually tried this jacket on in the store, and it was so comfortable.  With a little bit of cotton/terry material it wears similar to a sweatshirt or hoodie, with the style of a blazer.  You can dress this up or leave it casual. $59

The Brightly Colored Coat
my pick: The North Face Crimptastic Hybrid Jacket.
why: I'm going to be practical, I live in Salt Lake City. While this coat may not be as fashionable as others, it's warm! I love North Face coats, and already have too many in my closet.  This also shows the sportier side in me.  I love sporty clothes, a tom-boy at heart. North Face stuff hardly ever goes on sale, and is always on a wee bit more expensive than competitve brands.  $229

Chunky Knit Sweater
my pick: This Beauty from brownfashion.com
why:  umm hello, how great does this look?  I wish the price looked half as good.  Has anyone seen something similar to this piece at all? Until then I'll just dream about this one.  (seriously) $811

The Embellished Flat
my pick: LOLA from kurtgeiger.com
why: I think this would be a great punch of color to any tee and jeans.  These shoes alone could dress up a lot of my outfits.  $154

Platform Pumps
my pick: The N.Y.L.A. Extravaganza pump from heels.com
why:  I first saw these and thought Valentine's Day.  Wouldn't these be fabulous out on the town with your fabulous date?  Agreed. $113

Wide Leg Pant
my pick: Seven for All Mankind Wide Leg at Nordstrom
why: I've loved this brand from the beginning.  These just look like a fabulous work pant for me.  They're dark and definitely have a dressy flare to them.  $153

The Pencil Skirt
my pick: this Brocade Pencil Cream Skirt from coggles.com
why: this is unlike any piece I already have.  I can already see the fun blouses I'd want to pair with this skirt, and possibly even the ankle boot from above?  I might be getting ahead of myself, but this could make a great Easter dress.   $122

I hope you enjoyed my picks for fun accessories as we enter 2010!  What would YOU pick?  I'd love to see!  And also, stay tuned for the upcoming blog giveaway right here at Fresh Brownies!  Thanks for reading!

Snowed Inn

You know when you find a new piece that catches your eye and you absolutely love?  Well this blazer/jacket/top/sweater did just that for me the other night.  You know when you get Christmas money from your loved ones and they say to buy yourself something you want? Well that's exactly what I did.  I wore this outfit to work today, but when I finally got inside, I changed the boots to heels.  Although to be honest, I love the boots with this outfit.  What do you think?

I love that this piece is fitted, yet comfortable.  It is so versatile I can't wait to try it out with other pieces.  The pants I've had for about three years, and am so happy they still fit :) The boots are another Christmas gift from TT.  These are my "practical" boots.  I love them.  I love my other boots too much to take them out in the snow, but these booties are made just for that.  *please excuse the no makeup, my photographer was leaving before I was done getting ready*

How would you wear this outfit?  Was the sweater/shirt combo underneath my new jacket too much? I almost just wore a plain t, but then looked at my heaping  pile of laundry and realized it wasn't an option.  Have a wonderfully snowy day!

Little Miss Erika

Since it's finals this week, I've been buried in books and really the last thing I have had time for is thinking ahead for what to wear.  This has resulted in jeans and a different jacket, zip-up, or t-shirt everyday this week, and that's just not really blog worthy at all.  However, my good friend Erika, always knows just what to wear.  This is one girl whose not afraid to embrace her own style. I love her love for fashion.

What I love about this outfit: this is classy, and simple at the same time.  Who doesn't have a black top, jeans, and boots?  Erika makes a simple idea look very fashionable.  Plus, I think I could recreate something like this straight from my closet- and I love that.

Top: J.Crew (she should model for them) - looks like a shirt, but it is really more like a sweater.
Jeans: Banana Republic skinnys Boots: unknown.

The outfit is complete with just a few simple accessories.  Note the watch, and painted finger nails.  I always consider freshly manicured/painted hands an accessory.  Finger nail polish can draw attention just as well as a fun pair of earrings, or a necklace.

This is so helpful for me!  I think I can create my own version of this outfit, simply with what's ALREADY in my closet.  Thanks Erika for being so fashionable!

It's All About The Secret

Okay, so about a month ago I was shopping online, and came across these beauties.  Now that I'm married, 200 dollar UGGS aren't really in my newlywed, newlypoor budget.  But I've continued to look at these boots every day, as I'm trimming down my wishlist.  It's not that I need new boots, or even need new uggies, but my sweet father purchased them for me as if he knew I'd been eyeing them the last few weeks.

What do you think about the ones on the left? I almost got those ones because look how cute they are! But when I put them on, I felt like a grandma.  So, I went with my instincts.  Here is to my UGGs for this winter season! I can't wait to show them off.

Oh about the secret, my mom recommended the book The Secret, its pretty insightful.  Pretty much, if you think positively about things you want to accomplish in life, you'll find a way to make them happen.  I thought about these uggies practically everyday,  and look what happened.  Brilliant.
